Answer
Usually, there is only two reasons for this. The first is that the pull cord has simply gotten tangled and will need to be taken apart and re-threaded. I have a Craftsman model and it takes quite a bit to get the pull chord cover apart. My broke and I had to replace the chord. The second reason is usually that the piston as seized usually from lack off of lubrication and is usually not worth the time or the money to fix. Sometimes you cant even fix it cause the piston is almost welded to the cylinder wall when this happens. Hope this helps.
From another member 05-14-2012: There's a free solution to the seized piston. I have a Shindaiwa T230X grass trimmer. When I pulled the starter cord next time, it stopped dead at about 6-inches out. Wouldn't budge. My husband took a look. He said, "Isn't the fuel supposed to be greenish? Did you put oil in it?" Yikes! I had forgotten! Bad, bad! He then took off the starter assembly. He found nothing wrong with it, but found that the piston had seized. He took out the spark plug, cleaned that, then sprayed WD-40 into the spark plug port. He then poured 2-stroke engine oil right into the spark plug port. He also sprayed WD-40 around the little flywheel that the starter assembly snaps to. He gripped it with pliers, and got it to turn, but tightly. The compression was still good. Then he put back the spark plug, and the starter assembly, put 2-stroke oil in fuel and pulled the cord. The motor started right up, steady and strong and exhausted a plume of blue smoke. It runs as normal again. This is how it can be done.

what is the part of the weed wacker that has the string on it connected to the frane
you wont find a 4 cylinder weed wacker ( too heavy ) but most lawn and garden dealers will carry a 4 stroke weed wacker.
To change the weed wacker string, first, turn off the weed wacker and disconnect the spark plug. Then, remove the spool housing and take out the old string. Insert the new string following the manufacturer's instructions, and reassemble the spool housing. Finally, reconnect the spark plug and test the weed wacker.

The best four stroke, gas powered weed wacker out there is probably the Honda HHT25SLTAT 25cc. It costs around $350 and can almost be considered a professional weed wacker. The Craftsman 79197 29cc 4-stroke trimmer is a good runner up, costing about $200. But, this weed wacker does not have a shoulder strap and it weighs 20 pounds before the gasoline is added.

To perform a Ryobi weed wacker string replacement, first turn off the weed wacker and disconnect the spark plug. Then, remove the spool housing and take out the old string. Cut a new piece of string to the correct length and thread it through the spool. Wind the string evenly onto the spool and reassemble the housing. Finally, reconnect the spark plug and test the weed wacker.
