Just to explain the idle question. When you start the truck assuming it is carburated alot of 1988 models are you depress the fuel twice to set the choke when you start the truck it will be set in high idle. You have to push the fuel pedal one time after a few minutes to reduce the idle to normal.I would suggest removing the air cleaner assembly and cleaning the carburetor with carburetor cleaner and then use some liquid wrench on the choke area black in color on the back side of the carb and the metal linkage and cable going to it.I assume you may have the truck running on high idle all the time due to a stuck choke or the linkage sticking(not uncommon on these trucks).I use brake cleaner as well when cleaning the carburetor and USE this ONLY on the outside of the carburetor not spraying into the butterfly area. This cleans up things better and dry clean and dry. Then lube it at the cable then the choke and moving linkage metal and spring.I would suggest buying a haynes or chiltons (chiltons is better for pictures of carb) and shows a good break down of the choke, high idle arm so you know what to clean and lube.
Carb.? bad needle seat valve? Float needs adjustment?
I had the same problem on my 98 Mazda 626 and the O2 sensor was faulty.....
You can adjust the idle speed on your 1992 Honda 250, motorcycle with the fuel pump adjustment screw. Turning the adjustment screw will adjust the flow of fuel.

supercharger coupler / bearings
The vacuum pull off for the choke on the carburetor may be bad or out of adjustment.
Turn the idle adjustment screw on the carburetor counter clockwise while the engine is running, until the engine idles between 950 and 1000 RPM.
You may have a faulty coil. Check mass air flow sensor
