You can, but shouldn't and don't need to. The thermostat is designed to keep the engine operating at a certain temperature range. This temperature has been proven to make your engine run more efficiently, more power, better gas mileage, longer life, etc. If you live in a climate that has cold winters, this thermostat is part of what makes your heater work.
The Civic and other modern cars have computer controlled engines, the computer tells how much gas/air mixture, timing advance, and other functions. Part of this information is based on what engine temperature you're running. No thermostat means that your engine is not running at it's optimal temperature, and is then getting the wrong timing advance and fuel mixture info. You may be wasting fuel needlessly.
If removing the thermostat in order to help the engine run cooler in the event of overheating, you've got a different problem. A stuck thermostat will cause your engine to overheat, having a properly working thermostat will not. If your car has a new thermostat and still overheats-you've got a different problem.
A new thermostat for most cars is less than $15.
Where is the thermostat in a Honda Civic 02
how do you replace thermostat on 1994 Honda civic dx

No you cant it would not work with out it.... sorry
It would, but it is not a good idea.
Yes, you can technically run a 1996 Cadillac without a thermostat, but it is not recommended. The thermostat helps regulate the engine's operating temperature, and without it, the engine may run cooler than optimal, affecting performance, fuel efficiency, and emissions. Additionally, running without a thermostat can lead to increased wear on engine components and may cause issues with the vehicle's heating system. It's best to replace a faulty thermostat rather than removing it entirely.
only until the battery dies
A thermostat is used to keep the engine set at a specific temperature. A Honda Accord can run without one in specific environments where the weather is normally hot.
