I had the same problem and was able to fix it myself, by bypassing the switch. Now I simply plug the unit into the wall to turn it on, then unplug it to turn it off. This workaround has been working for over 5 years. To bypass the switch, remove the panel directly underneath it, then disconnect the wires from the switch and reconnect them using twist-on electrical connectors, which you can buy at any home improvement or hardware store.
