All 4 cylinder Accords up until 2002 use a timing belt. 2003 and up have a timing chain. All engines with a belt are interference engine and as such if the belt breaks serious engine damage will occur. I also recommend you replace the water pump at the same time as the belt to save on labor costs later on. Some also have a balance shaft belt that need replacing.
