Probably a faulty on-off switch in the door jamb, or a misaligned door which fails to close the connection.
Look on the drivers side door post or the door and there is a sticker with that information.
To reset the alarm system after changing the battery in a 1997 Subaru Legacy, first ensure that the new battery is properly installed and securely connected. Then, lock and unlock the driver's side door using the key or the remote. If the alarm remains active, you may need to turn the ignition to the "ON" position (without starting the engine) and leave it for about 10 minutes. This should reset the alarm system.

How do you disable the automatic door locks toyota 4runner 2013, with keyless system.
In a 1997 Subaru Legacy, the lock module is typically located inside the driver's side door. To access it, you'll need to remove the door panel, which involves unscrewing several screws and carefully prying off any clips. Once the panel is off, you should be able to see the lock module attached to the door mechanism. If you're having trouble, consult the vehicle's service manual for detailed instructions.
There are little black boots covering plungers in the door that can get worn down. I found that if I glue a nickel to the door where it presses on the plunger when closed, it fixed the problem. Hope it fixes yours!
