By your VIN. It will tell you what engine is in it. The 8th character in the VIN is normally your engine character code.
Tappet,i.e.,Lifters, can be found at a Nissan Dealer. They would be able to tell you the actual size.
If it won't start!
When you turn the ignition key to start, you should hear the pump make a noise for just a moment. A gauge will tell you if the pump is putting out the correct pressure.

In stock form? Not. I've owned 4 s13s and I now own an s14, and I can tell you that 240s aren't really made to go fast in straight lines without a bunch of modifications. Where the 240sx really shines is its handling and reliability. They're very fun cars to have, but for screwing around and racing other kids from light to light, there are better cars.
Under your hood, if you are facing the engine, there is a tag on the leftist middle that says your engine size unless your engine has been replaced with a different one.
On the left side of the engine when you standing facing the engine.. Its almost in inline with struts.. if u can tell where it is.
Depends on your motor condition, transmission type, wheel size, ect. Its hard to tell you unless you actually go and do it, I've seen some hit 120mph, others 145Mph. Like i said it depends on your car.
go to auto zone site, enter year, make, engine size, then look up thermostat, then to right off screen it will have repair guide, click on that and it will show and tell you how to replace, good luck.
