In general, you reset an ECM by commanding it to do so with a scan tool. You can also pull the ECM fuse, with the ignition off, or you can disconnect the battery, for a short period of time. (Varies - a minute or so - but disconnecting the battery also resets the clock, the radio, and possibly other things.) Note, however, that if you are resetting in order to clear the MIL (Check Engine Light) in order to pass an emisions test, the ECM will record the fact that you did so, and you will not pass until the ECM has completed its various IM readiness tests. That takes driving time, and if the fault condition still exists, the MIL will turn back on - you must fix it - not just reset the ECM.
