Warm up engine. With the valve cover removed, loosen one rocker arm at a time until it clatters. Now, slowly tighten that rocker arm until it stops and give it a 1/4 turn. Go to the next one. That's it. You'll make quite a mess that way, but it will work if you don't mind oil all over yourself and the car.
