its not a job for a backyard mechanic (no disrespect) it is located under the intake manifold and is a job and a half if not familiar with the lex v8. i would check battery cable connections and grounds also make sure start signal is going to starter solenoid. a bad alarm,or neutral softy switch. i have 300.000 miles on my ls400 1990 a starter is still cranking. you can also have someone hold the key in the start position wile you tap the starter with a long 3/8 wratchet extension. my bet is a bad connection power or ground also try to start it in neutral instead of park this will check a faulty saftey switch. also all aluminum engines tend to develop bad connections more then a iron block
