The most simple shock absorber design has it sit between the arm that holds the wheel and area under the seat on the frame. As the rear tire hits a bump, the shock absorber is "sandwiched" between the two. The shock absorber itself isn't too different from any other shock absorber.

To install a shock absorber for a Whirlpool Duet washer, start by unplugging the washer and locating the shocks at the front and rear of the washer. The front and rear axle of the vehicle works independently. Unless you have different type of absorber for left and right side, if not, there will not be any harm using either gas or hydraulic on different axle. Tks
