My Accent would not shift out of park. I checked the brake lights and they did not work. I checked the brake light fuse, which is behind the plastic panel left of the brake. It was good. I lay down on the driver's side floor board and looked up at the brake lever and found the brake light switch, which has a skinny white spring-actuated plastic plunger inside that extends when the brake pedal is pushed. It was not extending, so I removed it from the switch by pulling on the black rubber cover on back of switch. When, removed, it looks like a pen when you remove the inside and see the spring around the ink shaft. I sprayed a little Teflon lubricant on the tiny plunger at the end of spring. I replaced the plunger in the switch and pushed the black rubber rectangular piece back in. Brake lights work and so does the shifter. Total time spent was about 20 minutes. If it fails again, I will replace the brake light switch for less than $10.
