make sure the trunk weather stripping is in perfect condition. water runs down the trunk and right into the tail light printed circuit/bulb sensor. if you open the trunk and water runs out that's a good indicator that weather stripping needs some attention. depending on how long water has been involved,freezing,road salt and chemicals. the circuit boards may need to be replaced
