It will either be leaking which you can inspect visually (the oil inside the strut gives it the dampening ability. Or the car will tend to bounce a great deal, rather than once or twice whilst the vibration is cushioned. You can also push down on your car to test the struts effectiveness, it should wobble about 1-2 times and then stabilise. hope that helps.

How do you know if your front shocks are gone on your 1995 Intrepid and how do you replace them?

It has Struts and not shocks. If the car is bouncing or floating whenever you hit a dip in the road, or seems to handle poorly, these are signs of worn struts. A leak in one of the struts is also a sign of a bad strut. Mileage is another factor. Struts today will last a long time, but if the car has over 100,000 miles, then more than likely the struts need replacing. As to replacing them, unless you have the proper tools and knowledge, take it to a pro. Serious injury can occur when replacing struts, if you don't know what you are doing.

How do I know if the struts are bad?

If the struts are gone, the vehicle will bottom out easily and will tend to continue to bounce after giving a corner of the vehicle a hard shove downward. The vehicle will tend to roll more in corners as a result and will not handle as well as it should.

How do you know if your struts are bad?

You can tell if your struts are bad by observing symptoms such as excessive bouncing after hitting a bump, a noticeable decrease in ride comfort, or uneven tire wear. Additionally, if you hear a clunking noise when driving over rough surfaces or notice your vehicle swaying during turns, these could also indicate failing struts. A visual inspection might reveal oil leakage from the struts, which is another sign of deterioration. If you experience any of these issues, it's advisable to have your suspension system checked by a professional.
