For the most part, only old cars (pre 1970s.....) require adding coolant directly to the radiator. Newer vehicles have a "reservoir tank" that can be accessed anytime. If the reservoir is below the Full line (or nearing or below the Low line....) - you can add proper antifreeze/coolant (check your owner's manual) directly to this reservoir tank.
I've included the eHow article which outlines this process too....not to be confused, some owner's manuals MAY require "radiator flushing" - this is the only exception when you would add antifreeze/coolant to the "radiator" itself....and only when the vehicle has not been driven.
To change the antifreeze on a 2003 Alero once the car cools remove that radiator pressure cap. Pour in a gallon of pre mixed coolant.
should be on the bottom of the radiator
When changing the antifreeze first drain the old fluid by disconnecting the lower radiator hose. Plug the hose in and add coolant to the radiator. Check for air in the system, bleed if necessary.
It could cost between 300 dollars and 600 dollars to replace the radiator in a 2003 Kia Optima. This varies with the type of radiator chosen and your location.
how many gallons of antifreeze in a 2003 blazer radiator with a/c
The radiator antifreeze capacity of a 2003 Toyota Tundra with an 8-cylinder engine is approximately 12.5 quarts (about 11.8 liters). This includes the capacity of the radiator and the engine coolant system. It’s important to check the owner's manual for the exact specifications and recommendations for your specific vehicle.
In the radiator.
If you smell antifreeze after turning off your 2003 Grand Am, it could indicate a coolant leak, often from a damaged radiator, hose, or a blown head gasket. This smell typically arises when the engine heats up and the coolant escapes, either as steam or liquid. It's essential to address the issue promptly, as low coolant levels can lead to overheating and potential engine damage. Checking the coolant level and inspecting for leaks can help diagnose the problem.
Take the cap off the radiator and open the petcock on the bottom of the radiator.
It is on the bottom of the radiator just below the lower radiator hose.
I don't believe that there is one. Pull the lower radiator to drain the coolant.
To drain the radiator on a 2003 Dodge Dakota, first ensure the engine is cool and then locate the radiator drain plug at the bottom of the radiator. Place a container underneath to catch the coolant, and open the drain plug by turning it counterclockwise. Allow the coolant to fully drain out, then close the plug securely. Finally, dispose of the old coolant properly and refill the radiator with new coolant as needed.
