loosen the manual tensioners and the alt bracket.
Loosen the belts, unbolt the old alternator, bolt the new one on, tighten the belts back up.

Yes 4 cylinder have chain and 6 have belts.
you need to drain all the freeon out of the system. take the belts off. and take the bolts on the compressor out. its best to get under the truck. and there is a lot of wiggling to get out.
there should be two major bolts to the alternator one to losse'n up the belts and the other to release the alternator to the mount. loosen the belts first and then remove the belts.. after this it should be easy to replace the alternator
From the front remove the brush cover on the bottom of the truck. You will find the two tensioners for the two belts. You will have to loosen the center nut(i think it is a 14mm). once loosened there is a 12mm bolt, loosen that and the tensioner will open. remove the belts and replace with new ones. Be sure to write down the routing, draw a sketch, or a take a picture. Reverse order to tighten.
The water pump on a 97 Nissan Sentra is behind the timing belt. To replace it you will need to drain the coolant, remove the cylinder head, loosen pulley bolts, drive belts, and water pump pulley. Next, remove coolant hoses, water pump bolts, and finally the old water pump. Reverse directions to replace with new pump.
jack up the passenger side of the car. remove the splash guard in side the wheel well (all the black plastic inside fender)and remove the tire then u can acsess the belts. there are 3 sperate belts with non automatic idler pullys. loosen the idler pullys of the belts until u get to the compresser belt. replace then reinstall and tighten the belts with the idler pullys to repair manuel specs. a special tool will be required to get the correct tension of the belts
