The reservoir is usually considered to be the tank which holds coolant. It feeds the coolant into the radiator when needed, and receives coolant from the radiator as is necessary. This is where you check and maintain the coolant level. Make sure the cap is on quite tight.
Radiator coolant.
To drain the coolant from a 2005 Buick Rendezvous radiator, first ensure the engine is cool and then locate the radiator drain petcock, usually found at the bottom of the radiator. Place a container underneath to catch the coolant, and open the petcock to allow the coolant to flow out. Make sure to also remove the radiator cap to facilitate drainage. Once drained, close the petcock and dispose of the coolant properly.
Coolant goes in the radiator or you can also fill the radiator resevoir.
Low coolant, radiator restriction.Low coolant, radiator restriction.
Yes you can put coolant right into the radiator. Just make sure it is a 50/50 mix of the correct anti-freeze and distilled water.
In systems that do not have a radiator cap, the coolant is drained by the radiator drain plug. It is filled by adding coolant to the system through the overflow bottle.
To flush a radiator, first make sure the engine is off and cool. Locate the radiator drain plug, usually at the bottom, and use a container to catch the old coolant. Pour radiator flush solution and water into the radiator, run the engine for a few minutes, then drain the radiator by opening the drain plug. Finally, refill the radiator with the recommended coolant and water mixture.
To drain a radiator without a drain plug, you can disconnect the lower radiator hose to allow the coolant to flow out. Make sure to catch the coolant in a container for proper disposal. Be cautious of hot coolant and allow the radiator to cool down before attempting this.
One gallon and antifreeze and one gallon of water are needed to make coolant. They are then mixed together in a large bucket and then pour into your vehicles radiator.
If the radiator is cracked then the vehicle has ran dry on coolant. This would cause the radiator to crack if there wasn't any coolant.
Do this when the engine is cold only. First, remove the radiator cap. Then, locate the lower radiator hose. Unfasten this from the radiator. The old coolant will come out. Wait until the coolant has all come out. Then fasten the radiator hose again, make sure it is tight. Pour the new coolant into the radiator. Then, start the engine and let it idle. Pour more coolant into the radiator until it is almost full. Leave a space of 1 cm or so as the hot water will expand in the radiator and needs more space than cold water. Then, replace the radiator cap. Make sure the radiator hoses are not cracked or leaking. Check the coolant every week on older cars, at the same time as you check the engine oil level. Be careful with this, as the pistons will seize in the cylinders if the cooling system runs dry or even partially dry.
