how do i set the timing for a chevy 350 small block?
A small two-jaw or three-jaw gear puller works fine.
Looking at the front of the engine. The engine/ crankshaft will turn clowkwise.

By the part number. Probably be a 39, series number.
It will be at 12oclock stright up.
Everything is different in that motor.

It's the same as a small block chevy- 6 pm- 12 pm 6 : oclock on the cam shaft - 12: oclock on the crankshaft
