If its like on my 2009 sorento, you have one bolt on the lower left side on top to remove, then just pull on each corner, can be hard on the first time.
There are six Phillips screw heads that are 10mm socket(i believe) you can use either to remove but the socket will be less likely to slip and damage the hardware. There are two nearest the firewall, two around centerline and two nearest the grill. Careful not to drop them. The two at the bottom are most likely to be lost so magnetic style screw driver or magnetic sockets would be best, while the top four can be left in place when loosened. Then clean around the oil filler cap as best as possible to eliminate the possibility of junk getting in the oil fill. Remove cap once clean, pull up evenly on the engine cover and gently, it will pull up and out. Hope that helps.

It is in the front of the engine behind the timing cover. Not in the oil pan. You will have to remove the front of the engine to get to it. Tough Job
