If you are just removing the mirror from the glass, it is usally held on to a windshield button by a small set screw. If not, it is probably held to the button by wedge mounting to the button. The button itself cannot be removed from the glass without breaking the glass. If the button comes unattached, you can reglue the button with a special remount kit sold at auto stores.

If you mean the windshield mounted mirror, there is a small Allen or torx screw holding it on. Loosen it, slide the mirror up and remove.
Look at the mirror, and find the retainer screw. Loosen the screw and slide the mirror up, toward the roof of the car.

I've done a lot of research and trials with failure on a 98 XK8 conv. According to my service manager if you try to remove the windshield bracket it usually breaks the windshield, which is why the dealership won't just replace the mirror anymore. In my case, my mirror still works but hangs or wobbles now that it's glued with windshield sealant to the bracket when the connector broke. My plan is to replace the badly sand pitted windshield through insurance and at the same time purchase a new mirror +/- $500 - 15% coupon ($75) = $425 and have the glass company install the whole thing which they do as part of the windshield installation.
To remove the rearview mirror from an Acura RL, start by locating the mounting set screw on the back of the mirror. Use a Phillips screwdriver to loosen the screw without completely removing it, allowing the mirror to slide off the mounting bracket attached to the windshield. If the mirror has additional wiring for features like auto-dimming or integrated cameras, carefully disconnect the wiring harness before fully removing the mirror. Finally, gently pull the mirror away from the windshield to complete the removal.
