Most antenna in cars can just be unscrewed at the base. You may have to disconnect a wire at the base though. Check your owner's manual or a car repair manual for more details.
My last two Buicks the automatic antennas stuck in the up position so I just pulled the electrical plug off the side of the antenna unit in the trunk and left them that way. They say the gears wore out and the only way to repair them is to replace them.
Bring the destroyed external antenna to the store where you purchased it. Or visit any repair shops near you which will be able to repair the external antenna.
