They will have to drop the transmission out to do the repair. The part itself is generally less than $40 for a kit or less than $20 just for the seal. $1k sounds high to me. I just had it quoted on mine at $500 and that still sounded high, but given the labor its probably about right. Best to get other tranny work done while its out IMHO. (Clutch, flywheel, etc on a manual, or fluids and such on an auto)
