I read this at one of the Nissan dealers website. I have never done it, so please double check my procedure.
Turn on the engine.Take the engine fuse off (while the engine is running) from the fuse box to de-pressurize the fuel lines.Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery.Reconnect the fuse.Replace the fuel filter that is located on the firewall.Reconnect the negative terminal of the battery.
The 1999 Nissan Ultima fuel filter is located in the fuel tank. The fuel filter is not visible and is very costly to replace.
It would be nice to know the year of your Nissan Altima. For Nissan 2000 Altima GXE the air filter is located right next to the battery. Just push off the 4 clips that hold the top of the filter housing and pull the top off just enough to remove/replace the air filter. Close it and and pull the clips back on.
It is attached to the fuel pump. both are located in the fuel tank and not serviceable parts

A 2006 Nissan Altima has a fuel filter located along the vehicle's frame. It is positioned just past the fuel tank for maximum efficiency.

To the left of the oil filter housing on the back side of engine block. To replace it you must be underneath the car.
The oil filter is located right above the steering rack on the passenger side.
It is located on the inside of the fuel tank, and will never need servicing!
