Switch on the ignition key but don't start the engine. A small grommet is located in the plastic shield over the instrument panel, at the bottom. Unplug it, take a long metal pin and push it through the hole so that it presses the little button between the rpm meter and the odometer. This will reset the counter. This light comes on every 100.000 km in order to remind the owner to change the timing belt.
The check engine light in a 2004 Toyota Tacoma can come on for many reasons. It could indicate an exhaust leak or a problem with the engine.
The Check Engine Light has nothing to do with oil changes. It is on because there is a problem with the emissions system.
um yeah it does have one
Have vehicle scanned to determine the problem
After the repair, you reset it with an OBD2 scan tool.
This could mean any number of things. I have a 98 Tacoma and the "check engine" light has only come on once in 8 years ... and that was because I didn't have a gas cap at the time!
My 1996 4wd Toyota Tacoma had a check engine light and the codes that were obtained were "shift selenoid....." I was informed that it was a sensor inside the transmissions and I has a transmission specialist (AAMCO) work on it. I think they ripped me off. I apid $850.00 to get the work done.
take postive side of battery off then put back on
The check engine light has nothing to due with an oil change.
check for tune-up, check maf sensor, check o2 sensors, do a fuel system service.
You read the codes with a scanner, repair the cause, and clear the code with the scanner.
You should check your Toyota Tacoma's owners manual. There should be a diagram for the location of your thermostat.
