With the key on, turn the radio off and you will see the display on how to set the hours and minutes.
the clock is set for time
I was totally puzzled by the same problem - - followed the Owner's Manual instructions explicitly to no avail. Problem is - - there are two (2!) DISP buttons - - a prominent one on the dashboard - - a less prominent one on the steering wheel. It's the steering wheel one that you want to press and hold to access the clock reset functions. (Then make a note in your Owner's Manual that it's the DISP button on the steering wheel.)
To set the clock on a 2008 Jeep Patriot, turn the ignition to the "On" position without starting the engine. Press the "Menu" button on the radio until you see the clock display. Use the tuning knob to adjust the hours and minutes, then press the "Menu" button again to save your changes. Finally, exit the menu to return to normal radio operation.
