Five quarts of Dexron III for a typical drain, 12 quarts for a complete flush including torque converter.
If you're doing this yourself you'll need a few items. Your choice whether to replace the pan gasket only (about $8) or the strainer and gasket (about $20). The second option is best (you wouldn't change your oil without changing the filter right?)
The following is a procedure I found online posted by another Solara owner. I can't tell you it's absolutely correct but you'll at least have a guide. For a complete flush I'd recommend buying a service manual.

-Drive car to heat up fluid (drains faster and carries more sediment). I prefer to let it sit an hour so it is not super hot but that's up to you.
-Jack up car and use jack stands for safety..
-You need to first drain fluid of course. The pan is located on the drivers side and uses a 11mm? (i forget) allen head screw. If you are not changing filter/strainer proceed to **** below
-After you drain all fluid you will need to remove all the bolts that hold the pan to the car. A good method is to leave the four screws closest to each corner tightened and remove the rest. Then you can remove the remaining corners. Loosen either the front two or rear two at a faster pace than the others so you know what end the fluid in the pan will start seeping from. After fluid has drained from pan remove it.
-Clean pan out. Clean magnets in pan and place them back in the same vicinity as you got them. Clean any old gasket residue off pan to ensure a good seal w/ the new gasket.
-Remove old strainer/filter and replace w/ a new one. This is pretty straight forward. Above the pan you will see it held in place with only 3 screws same size as pan screws except longer.
-Re-attach pan. Place gasket on the pan and push through the bolts. This will allow the gasket to retain the bolts as you place the pan back and the screws wont fall out on you while you are trying to start them. Tighten bolts in an even fashion. Criss cross is the preferred method I believe for this.

_That's it add fluid. \3.5 qts. is a good start as that is probably what came out maybe a bit more. Start car and move shifter up and down the gears. Add more fluid as necessary.
It comes in handy knowing the amount of transmission fluid a car will hold. The 1999 Toyota Solara will need 5 quarts of Dexron III fluid.
You should edit your question. To provide an accurate answer you need to mention whether you have a manual or automatic transmission and then which transmission. They're different between the 4 and 6 cylinder and between Gen I and Gen II Solaras. Or, download the factory service manual from Toyota which will have that data. You can also purchase the Chilton or Haynes maintenance manuals for Solara. All will have capacities along with complete instructions for replacing transmission fluids. Cheers
On a 2000 Toyota Solara, the automatic transmission solenoid is typically located within the transmission assembly. To access it, you would generally need to remove the transmission pan, as the solenoids are usually mounted on the valve body inside the transmission. It's advisable to refer to a repair manual for detailed instructions or consult a professional mechanic for assistance.
it is a 5 speed automatic transmission that allows the driver to shift manually. Of course it can just be left in auto mode too.

Check your owners manual. It says:Change automatic transmission fluid only as necessary. Generally, it is necessary to changeautomatic transmission fluid only if your vehicle is driven under one of the Special Operating Conditions listed in your "Scheduled Maintenance Guide" or "Owner's Manual Supplement". When changing the automatic transmission fluid, use only "Toyota Genuine ATF Type T- IV"(ATF JWS3309 or NWS6500) to aid in assuring optimum transaxle performance.Notice: Using automatic transmissionfluid other than "Toyota Genuine ATF Type T- IV" may cause deterioration in shift quality, locking up of your transmission accompanied by vibration, and ultimately damage the automatic transmission of your vehicle.
My first suggestion (as usual) is to check your owners manual. It will give you the specification specific to your car/transmission combination. Answering your question as asked is very difficult since we don't know whether you have a manual or automatic transmission and if automatic which one, four or six cylinder engine. The following is the service manual spec for your year (some later models may be different) Automatic Trans The 5S-FE requires 2.6 quarts of Dexron III The 2AZ-FE requires 4.1 quarts of T-IV (Toyota fluid) The 1MZ-FI requires 5 quarts of Dexron III The 2MZ-FE requires 3.7 quarts of T-IV Manual Trans All for 1999-2001 require 2.3 quarts of API GL-5 75W-90 Later years require the same fluid but different amounts. Cheers, Gadget
