According to the Chilton Manual after draining the old oil and reinstalling the drain plug and new oil filter you should add 3 quarts of oil in the engine then wait a few minutes and check the oil level on the dipstick. If the level is at or near the F mark then close the filler cap and start the engine, letting it run about a minute while you check for any leaks. Then you can shut it off and wait a few minutes before checking the oil level again, then you can any oil IF it needs it to bring the level up to the F mark.
