Incorrect. I own a 1997 Civic Ex that I recently weighed on a certified truck scale. Gross vehicle weight(with a half tank of gas+driver)=2930 lbs. Driver weight+aftermarket subwoofer enclosure and stereo components=approximately 300lbs. Realistic operating weight of empty vehicle=2630lbs.
The only variable I can't account for in my answer is the added weight of the ABS system in the '99 civics. However, I can't imagine that an ABS modulator, a circuit board and a few sensors added more than 100lbs to the overall vehicle weight Everything else remained the same in the later years of this generation('96-'00) civic.
