Open trunk and remove the two (now) exposed hex head bolts with a 10 mm socket (the bolts are located at the innermost edge or flange of the tail light assembly). Then carefully pull the tail light assembly straight out to the outward side (not toward the back of the car; but to the side). The tail light assembly has two pins which plug into sockets in the side of the car body in the body recess. You can see the sockets from inside the truck if you pull the inner carpet trim away from the inside of the trunk. The light sockets are a twist into the back of the tail light housings. To reinstall: carefully plug the tail light housing back into the sockets from the side and then reinstall the bolts. I later discovered illustrations of this in the later pages of the owners manual.
