We all know what it's like to suffer from sore joints. Even if you're in good physical condition, without enough cushioning between your bones, ordinary motions can be difficult. Now, apply that same concept to the suspension on your old car or truck. The bushings found on the control arms, leaf springs and various mounts are like the cartilage between your joints. The manufacturer normally equips a vehicle with rubber bushings, which provide a soft ride. Over time, however, the rubber begins to wear from oil and other contaminants under your vehicle, and the suspension components start to bind. That's when the automotive equivalent of Arthritis sets in, and your vehicle's performance suffers (not to mention your own level of ride and handling comfort). Worn bushings are one of the major reasons for road wander. Rubber bushings may crush down before the suspension can respond to a bumpy road, allowing for play or wobble.
Little rubber parts that help to cushion a car's suspension system, if they wear out you can hear a knocking noise when going over bumps.
Suspension squeaking in a Cavalier can be from suspension parts rubbing together. Check to insure that all of the bushings in the suspension are intact.
A arm bushings
It may be the tires, and not the suspension at all. If the tires are oversized, it may be sidewall flex.
Bushings are used in suspension parts, mainly.
There are bushings located underneath most of the vehicles. Bushings are rubber inserts that resist the shock of the driven surface. These rubber pieces are found on all the suspension components of the vehicle.
Need to know which bushings, there are many bushings in a vehicle.
would it be subfram bushings that stop the car fromm swaing or sway bar bushings
Various possibilities, may be a loose caliper or pad. Maybe in the suspension. Ball joints, Radius arm bushings, control arm bushings. This may not be your brakes, if it is a front wheel drive car, your driveshafts may need to be replaced.
have you had your wheels balanced? Most XK8's have a common problem with the suspension bushings. The rubber they are made of is only good for about 5 years or 60,000 miles. After that the bushings get soft. The worst culprit is the upper shock bushing on the front suspension. Right now my car needs new upper bushings, but they are $150 to $250 each and the labor will run you twice that much. A couple of companies make kits to rebuild the bushing assemblies. That saves a little money, but it is still labor intensive.
Kinda-sorta. Worn bushings loses the car some control if you push the performance. If you don't need every sliver of performance, then worn bushings doesn't mean much.
you'll need to put in new bushings
