What are the two main types of eclipses?

There are eclipses of the sun (solar), and eclipses of the moon (lunar). At different places on the Earth, each of those may be total or partial. Sometimes only a partial eclipse is visible anywhere.

There's really four types. Total eclipses are where the moon completely blocks the sun. Partial eclipses where the moon blocks some of the sun, the alignment is not exact so a 'bite' is taken out of the sun. Then there are annular eclipses, where the alignment is more or less exact, but the moon appears smaller than the sun, so you see a ring of sun. Then there are hybrids, where one type is seen at one point on earth while another type is seen at other locations.

There are also partial eclipses, where the moon does not completely eclipse the sun.
