For a 2000 Toyota Hiace, the recommended differential oil is typically 80W-90 gear oil for the rear differential. If your Hiace has a limited-slip differential, you may want to use a gear oil that contains limited-slip additives. Always consult the owner's manual or a professional mechanic for specific recommendations based on your vehicle's condition and usage.
about 3 quarts
0w80 synthetic gear oil.
6 litres
based on a 2002 D4D 2.5l toyota hiace, the oil capacity is 7.3litres in the engine and another 0.7litres in the filter. (source - commaoil website)
The oil capacity is 5.7 quarts with oil/filter change.
limited slip diff uses 75w-140 synthetic with 4 oz. friction modifier without slip diff. uses 75w-140 synthetic
For 1996-2006 75-90w semi-synthetic oil
80w90 oil
I think its six litres with an empty filter.
the front diff is part of the gearbox and the diff/gearbox oil is the same-there is a dipstick on the offside of the box near the bellhousing.
get a half inch driver socket wrench, locate the drain plug on the diff. drain plug will be close to the bottom of diff or if there is no drain bolt you must remove entire diff cover, probably 10 bolts. drain, replace gasket or make new one with RTV torque bolts to "gut-n-tight" German standards and fill with new oil at fill plug(upper part of diff cover). recycle oil then take a shower because you probably got some nasty smelling 80-90w on your skin. Done.
The Diff oil ir either needing changed or topped up, if its a whining noise that is.
