The DOHC water pump is very different from the more traditional designs.It's more of a stand-alone unit mounted to the engine. Remove the unit and then take the front off which incorporates the impeller into that.It's more of a variation of the water pump on the 2.5 DOHC in the Contour/Mystique, than conventional pumps. (that's my point of reference anyways).The Taurus Car Club site has a couple of extensive, and photo-heavy threads on DOHC water pumps. The 2.4 litre DOHC engine is NOT an interference engine.

the 2001-2005 has a 1.5Liter DOHC (dual [which mean two] over head cam) the 2006-present has a 1.6Liter DOHC answer double over head cam DOHC
