This is one of the most frequent problems with the Optima model, not just one or two years but all year all engine size. You have one-two-three or four of a four problem set.
Your car has a canister located behind the rear drivers wheel called the EVAP canister. There are four hoses leading from that canister to:
1. The CCV or canister close valve. this valve allows for air pressure regulation within the close fuel evap system (filling your tank for example displaces air with fuel) and this valve is normally in the open position, but can get stuck closed. this is your number one suspect.
2. Back to the fuel tank, through a filter. This hose can get blocked from the charcoal releasing from the canister, or the two way valve can get stuck....
3. To the purge control valve. This can block also causing fuel to back up into the fill tube,
These three things, along with the evap canister itself, are your problem. It is a very easy fix with a jack, some jackstands and some metric sockets. There are no aftermarket for most of these parts, so i would search a site like carjunky to find some discounts.

The fuel pump on a 2002 Kia Optima is located inside the fuel tank. To access it, you typically need to remove the rear seat cushion and the access panel, or alternatively, drop the fuel tank itself. It's advisable to consult the vehicle's service manual for specific instructions and safety precautions when working on the fuel system.
To remove the oil pump from a 2002 KIA Optima V6, first, drain the engine oil and disconnect the battery. Remove the oil pan by taking out its bolts, then unbolt the oil pump from the engine block. Carefully pull the oil pump out, ensuring no debris falls into the engine. For reinstallation, reverse the process: position the new or cleaned oil pump, secure it with bolts, reattach the oil pan, and refill with oil before reconnecting the battery.
i know that sometimes when a fuel pump doesnt work its not the pump, but rather the fuel pump relay try checking that
The fuel pump on a 2005 Kia Optima is removed by the fuel tank, disconnecting the fuel lines, and pulling the wiring harness. The pump can then be unscrewed from the tank, lifted out, and a new pump put in place.
Located inside the fuel tank.
To tighten the power steering belt on a 2002 Kia Optima, first, locate the power steering pump and the tensioner pulley. Loosen the adjustment bolt on the power steering pump, then adjust the tension by sliding the pump until the belt is tight but not overly strained. Tighten the adjustment bolt securely, and check the belt tension again to ensure it is within the proper range. Finally, make sure the belt is properly aligned on all pulleys before closing everything up.
It is in the tank. Remove the tank then the pump. Not an easy job.
