Follow the upper radiator hose to the engine. Where it connects to the engine you will find the thermostat under the thermostat housing. Usually 2 bolts holding it in place.

first locate you throttle body on the upper plenium it is the sensor right below it on the front of the engine

the cool sensor is located under the throttle boby on the front of the engine. disconect the wiring harness and use a box wrench (19mm) to remove it
My 1995 Firebird gets close to 25-35 MPG so yours should get something like that.
