Engaging the ECT on a 4Runner causes the automatic transmission to shift at a higher rpm, giving a sportier or more rugged quality to the shift pattern. This is discussed in the owner's manual, something which can be ordered for most years at any time. Its meaning is Electronically Controlled Transmission. When engaged it sends a signal to the onboard computer to control the shifting. It will take into account all the engine data and then shift the drive as it feels necessary for best performance. Sometimes it will shift at a lower rmp if the load it is pulling deems it necessary. Setting it so you see the light will actually turn off the ECT. The warning light indicates the ECT is off. You should run the car with the lamp off under most circumstances.

To turn off the ECT PWR light on a 2001 Toyota 4Runner, you need to press the "ECT PWR" button, usually located on the gear shift or dashboard. This function is designed to enhance performance by modifying the transmission's shift points. If the light remains on after pressing the button, check for any transmission issues, as the light may indicate a problem that requires further diagnosis. If necessary, consult the owner's manual or a mechanic for assistance.
In a 2001 Toyota 4Runner, the ECT (Electronic Control Transmission) button is typically a small rectangular or square button located on the center console, near the automatic transmission shifter. It may have the letters "ECT" printed on it, and it can be illuminated when activated. The button is usually black or gray in color, blending in with the console's design. When pressed, it engages a mode that enhances engine performance for better acceleration.
In a 1997 Toyota RAV4, the ECT (Electronically Controlled Transmission) button is typically located on the center console, near the gear shifter. It may be labeled as "ECT" or "ECT Power." Pressing this button activates a mode that enhances engine performance for better acceleration and response.
You push the ECT PWR button (located left to the radio) to the "Off" position.
ECT is for towing, you activate ECT so your transmission doesn't shift into a higher gear until it reaches a higher minimum rpm. This will create less load on the entire drive train as a whole.
In a 2002 Toyota Tacoma, the ECT (Electronic Control Transmission) button is typically located on the gear shift lever. It may be labeled as "ECT" or "ECT Power." When activated, this button enhances transmission performance for better acceleration by adjusting the shift points. If you're having trouble locating it, consult your owner's manual for a diagram or more specific information.
