I just had to remove my stater after it broke it's top mouting stud and cracked the bottom mount. I hand to crawl under and attach the new starter from underneath. This is a must have a ratchet otherwise there is no space for you to get leverage. Took me about 10-15 mins due to not haveing a lot of room and my hand cramping. If you have access to ramps or a lift I suggest using them to speed up your work time. Past that it was an easy fix.

Disconnect battery. Remove air cleaner. Disconnect wire from starter. Remove starter. Reverse procedure using replacement starter. With a few variations this is the same for every automobile or truck engine ever built and exactly the procedure in the Subaru service manual.

Looking at the top of the motor remove the air intake and it is below the butterfly on the drivers side top end of the motor.
Its on top of the engine by the fuel injection (remove the air intake first). Need a 10mm socket with a long extention.
Depends on the year I guess. I have a 2002 Chevy S-10 and I had to remove the exaust pipe from underside of the starter and then just unbolt and remove...not hard once the pipe is off. You will need a socket wrench and a long extention to reach the bolts on the top of the pipe.
its on the top drivers side under the clutch master cylinder or the brake master cylinder easy to remove three bolts i believe
In general, remove negative cable from battery, remove electrical wires from starter, remove bolts holding starter in place, remove starter. Replace starter in reverse order.
the starter motor is located in the middle of the rear side of the engine above the gear box. to remove it you will need to remove a 17mm retaining nut positioned below the starter another at the top, it's hidden under a wiring loom so have a good look round. then remove the wires from the motor with a 13mm spanner. although it is tight you then remove the whole thing from the underside of the engine. hope this is of use to you ....
