it sends like a message to the computer telling the car when to switch gears. When that goes out u probably only have the set gears below drive.
Could be a dead battery or a problem with the starter...most likely the solenoid switch.

The wiring of the solenoid will depend on what purpose the solenoid serves and the brand. In basic terms, when power is turned onto the solenoid, the inner coil pulls the plunger. The unit needs power and a ground, with a switch or relay to trigger it.
Did you replace the ignition switch? Not the key tumbler but the actual ignition switch. If so, you have a wiring problem.
I'm not a mechanic / technician but I'm guessing a starter relay ( solenoid ) malfunction ( located near your battery ) or a problem with the ignition switch Anybody else have any ides ?
