This was my first car. I (not my parents) bought it used in 1980. Being a 16 year old kid, I drove the heck out of it. It had a manual transmission and even with the jack rabbit starts and stops, it got 32-35 MPG. It seemed like I could drive forever on a tank of gas. You would think technology would have gotten a lot further since 1978. The truth is... according to a friend of mine who was an engineer for General Motors, technology was a lot further even in 1978. He said there were several carberators they developed that got as much as 70 MPG and more. Welcome to the real world.
