The rear oxygen sensor looks at the percentage of oxygen in the exhaust after it has passed through the catalytic convertor. The computer compares this with the reading from the front sensor to tell if the catalytic converter is working correctly.
There are two oxygen sensor for Mitsubishi Outlander. Front Oxygen Sensor and Rear Oxygen Sensor
The front oxygen sensor is located on the exhaust manifold of the BMW 318ti. The rear oxygen sensor is located in the head pipe.
The 1998 Pathfinder right rear oxygen sensor can be found in the cargo compartment. The oxygen sensor will be beneath the cargo floor, where the spare tire is housed.

The 1997 Ford Aerostar oxygen sensor is screwed into the exhaust pipe. It is about even with the rear of the oil pan.
4 oxygen sensors (2 front and 2 rear)
Both oxygen sensors are located on the catalytic converters. Sensor 1 is in front of the front converter and sensor 2 is either at the rear of the front converter or the front of the rear converter. They are only a foot or so apart.

The oxygen sensor is in the rear exhaust manifold. You should be able to see it by looking behind the engine from inside the engine bay.
