The top two general auto tranny reasons that I can think of are low fluid or it is pretty cold outside (and once the car warms up it won't happen anymore). I'm sure various failures in the tranny could cause this, but I'm not sure what they would be.

What would cause an auto transmission to engage only when first put in drive unless motor is reved on a 2000 Subaru Legacy GT?

Check the fluid level first, but beyond that, any internal wear which allows hydraulic pressure leaks would cause the problem you describe. It could be a clutch pack, valve body, hydraulic pump or even a partially plugged filter.

Where is the oil drain plug subaru loyale?

Near the front of the engine if it's a 92. The rear nut is for the transmission fluid, which should be changed every 30,000 or so, unless it's older.

How to change transmission oil on a 2002 Subaru Forester s?

The advice that I was given is to change the oil annually and chances are your transmission will last the life of the vehicle. With that said, there is a drain plug on the transmission pan. Buy a 1-gallon bottle of Dexron III and you are ready to go. There is a spin-on filter on the same side of the transmission as the drain plug, and I have changed that filter but I don't think that it is necessary unless your transmission is already having trouble. --Ken

Where is the trans filter located on 2011 subaru outback 5eat?

Unless there are problems with the transmission you do not need to do anything with transmission filter. Although I am not familiar with your specific transmission, Subaru includes a drain plug on the side of their transmissions. Drain fluid once a year and refill. Mine is the 4 speed and it takes 4 quarts to refill. This does not by any means remove all of the oil, but you will remove any sediment in the pan and will add fresh seal conditioners. Do this yearly and, barring abuse, your transmission will last the life of the car. Your transmission uses a special fluid that sells for about $5 to $8 a quart. Do not use standard Dexron type fluid.
