There is no timing belt to change. One of many reasons the echo is such a great car! It has a timing chain, and the timing chain has NO scheduled replacement time. The general rule for timing belts on Japanese cars is 60,000 miles. I do not know the specific mfg. suggestions. I will tell you that a broken timing belt at highway speeds usually results in a bunch of bent valves and scored pistons. $1000.00 + in damage. So do not delay!!!!! Here is a maintenance chart. I do not see timing belt anywhere. http://www.villatoyota.com/en/service/maintenance/index.spy?cmd=menu&menuid=536&make=Toyota&model=Echo&trim=&year=2000 Y-THINK-Y
when it breaks
Toyota Echos have a timing chain rather than a timing belt so there is no need to change it.
It must have a timing CHAIN ( the Gates website does not have a listing for a timing belt )
No. This car does not have a timing belt.
2001 Toyota Echo doesn't have a timing belt.

timing chain.
chain
chain
The Echo has a chain. I tried to get a mechanic to change the belt once, he informed me that it had a chain.
Its a chain drive so no need to worry about anything related to timing belt ;) Cheers
There is no timing belt in a 2002 Echo. It has a chain, and there is no service interval for it. If it starts making noises, have it checked out. It could last for hundreds of thousands of miles.
