Look down low on the transmission for a yellow loop handle on the dipstick.
The automatic transmission dipstick is at the rear of the engine , on the passenger side of the engine , next to the firewall
The automatic transmission dipstick should be between the passenger side of the vehicle and the engine , near the firewall
According to the 1997 Mercury Mountaineer owners manual : Your 4R70W automatic transmission takes ( Motorcraft MERCON automatic transmission fluid ) * the type that is used should be engraved into your automatic transmission fluid level dipstick *
Yes
You have to drop the whole transmission pan, then refill from the transmission dipstick
No, they are different.
I know for all the cars we have had ,that if it is an automatic transmission you have to pour the transmission fluid down the Transmission dipstick (where you check the fluid at), But if your car is a 5 speed manual you have to check the fluid under the car and pour it in there. The system is a closed system, its meant to last the life of the transmission. This being said there is no dipstick at all on an automatic jetta I'm not sure of the years but the 97's don't have one. There is an area where a dipstick can be added in the front of the transmission near the radiator you will have to look for it and you can buy the $19.00 mod piece on eBay or elsewhere.
Does it have a dipstick?
No
Assuming you mean an automatic transmission, the dipstick is on the right hand side of the engine bay. You'll need a small tipped funnel to add fluid down the tube. If your referring to a manual transmission, there will be a fill plug on the side of it.
That would be the 4L60E transmission.
You add the fluid down the transmission dipstick tube.
