on the 4.2L engine the oil filter is located just to the left (if your facing front of engine)of the crankshaft pulley. On my 2005, it is located under a hinged cover fastened by two screws. You cannot see it unless you open the panel. Its a little tight under there so you may have to jack the truck up from the passengers side (and don't forget the jack stands and wheel chocks for safety).
