check your brake fluid in the reservoir and be sure it is topped off, most corollas have a sensor in the reservoir to detect low fluid level which can happen over time as your brakes wear. I dont think it is a stuck switch for the parking brake since the light for it is usually a (p) but if it is not you may need to check it as well.

usually it is a fault with the brake light switch located on the brake pedal arm. there is a plastic button that sometimes disintegrates and no longer allows contact with the switch. Check that first. You can find a replacement by using a body fastener.
The timing marks on a 1994 Toyota Corolla are located on the crankshaft cover. The crankshaft cover is usually located at the very bottom of an engine.
