If you do not have your car turned on the vehicle will not shift out of park. You also have to have your foot of your brake.
my 2000 elantra wipers speeds just died....i only have fast, have not bothered to chang it yet, I guess I wont!
mine did same, 95 elantra. it was fuse for radio in fuse box. hope that helps.
Sounds like to me that the shifter linkage didnt positively engage the transmission into park older cars sometimes have sloppy linkage mechenisms and that's most likely what happened.AnswerUse the parking break in addition to putting your vehicle in park. It is bad on your transmission to park on a hill without your parking break on. What you need to do is place your foot on the break put the car in neutral apply the parking break and then shift into park.
Make sure you have your foot pressing on the brake pedal - Sonanta will not shift out of park unless brake is applied.
are you pressing the brake as you try to shift?
There's a click on/off switch for the O/D located on the gear handle, just below the big button that you push in to shift out of park. I hit it with my knee all the time. If you put your head under the steering wheel (easiest with the driver door open) and look at the gearshift handle from down there, you can't miss it. It's the only other button on it.
If parking lights stay on after the car is turned off on a 2001 Hyundai Elantra than the brake switch is malfunctioning. The brake switch turns off when pressed in and if it does not work the lights of the vehicle will stay on.
if you can't shift out of park or sometimes when the key can't be removed sometimes it helps to remove the cap of the shift lock release and press the button with a key, pen, or whatever fits in there to depress it.
You have to step on the brake pedal and hold it, then shift into gear.
Couple of possibilities: The external shift linkage is out of adjustment. the "pawl" inside the transmission is bent or broken.
There should be a shift release slot in the upper left corner of the shifter. If you stick a pencil in the slot you should be able to release the car from park. I had to do this for about two weeks and then it fixed itself. so it may only be a temporary solution but it should help you drive when you need to.
You can not adjust the shift cable if you have having problems to where your exploer will not go into park then you will need to buy a new shift cable that is the only way to fix the problem
