you can go to speedometer and out of speedometer
If the speedometer and the odometer are not working, I would suspect the VSS (vehicle speed sensor). If only the speedometer is not working I would suspect the instrument cluster has problems.
If the speedometer is not working but the odometer is, I would suspect the dash cluster is at fault. If both speedometer and odometer are not working I would suspect the speed sensor on the transmission is at fault.
why would a speedometer stop working on a Mazda
I would follow the cable back to the tansmision. Make sure it is intact and connected at both ends.
The odometer on a 96 Ford Explorer is tied into the speedometer. If the speedometer is working then there is a gear problem inside of the speedometer causing the odometer to not work.
Not knowing the year, make and model vehicle it limits how much we can help you. If the speedometer cluster is digital and both the speedometer and odometer is not working I would suspect the vehicle speed sensor is at fault. If only the speedometer is not working I would suspect the dash cluster is at fault.
Hi There, On my 1995 Nissan Pick-up, The speedometer as well as the tachometer would intermittenly stop working. Sometimes one would work then the other would stop working, sometimes both stopped working at the same time. I never knew when it would happen. Then, at 90,000 miles, the Check Engine light came on and everything worked GREAT. It turns out that the wire that sets off the Check Engine light was shroting out causing the problems. It was fixed today for a cost of $160.65. It worked for me, I hope that it works for you. Good Luck!
To change the speedometer cable on a 1992 Nissan Maxima, first, disconnect the negative battery terminal, then remove the instrument cluster to access the cable connection. Unscrew the old cable from the back of the speedometer and from the transmission, then install the new cable in reverse order. A faulty speedometer cable can stop working due to wear and tear, kinks, or damage to the cable, or if the speedometer gear within the transmission is broken. Always check for any obstructions or issues with the speedometer itself if the new cable does not resolve the problem.
The gears in the speedometer are stripped. If the odometer is working then you have input.
TCM Malfunction, And/Or Speedometer Sensor Malfunction.
If the speedometer and odometer are both not working, I would blame the speed sensor. If only the speedometer does not work and the odometer does work, the cluster is bad.
