When your clutch makes a funny noise when you step on it, you might simply have sand in the mechanism. You can begin by cleaning the clutch. If this does not help, check the clutch slave cylinder to see if it is working properly as it tends to cause a squeaking sound when it is damaged.
This depends when the noise happens:When you hold the clutch peddle down, this is the "Throw out bearing" also known as release bearing, getting ready to seize and ruin your clutchWhen you step on the peddle, this is usually a dry pivot or cable, there are pivots (3) in the peddle itself and may be several more on the way to the clutch.
Because there are so many parts to actually diagnose this will be a good place for you to start to troubleshoot what is wrong. The information below was taken directly from this site and it should help you to pin point where your trouble is: http://auto.howstuffworks.com/clutch2.htm Clutch Diagnostic TestIf you find that your clutch has failed, here is an at-home diagnostic test that anyone can perform: # Start your car, set the parking break, and put the car in neutral. # With your car idling, listen for a growling noise without pushing the clutch in. If you hear something, it's most likely a problem with the transmission. If you don't hear a noise, proceed to step three. # With the car still in neutral, begin to push the clutch and listen for noise. If you hear a chirping noise as you press, it's most likely the clutch release, or throw-out bearing. If you don't hear a noise, proceed to step four. # Push the clutch all the way to the floor. If you hear a squealing noise, it's probably the pilot bearing or bushing. If you don't hear any noise during these four steps, then your problem is probably not the clutch. If you hear the noise at idle and it goes away when the clutch is pressed, it may be an issue in the contact point between the fork and pivot ball.
It sure does . Almost like a rod knock . But with a crack flex plate if you press and hold the brake pedel and step on the gas pedel just a little the noise goes away .. With a rod knock the noise gets louder and faster as you step on the gas..

the noise you hear when stepping on the brake is a solenoid activating the lockout on the transmission. it stops you from putting the car in gear unless you step on the brake.
The clutch will slip in higher gears first. Cruise about 40 mph in 4th gear and step on it, if the rpm's go up more then the speed your clutch is going
