it's broke. if you car is not going into gear then it could be the trasnmision
why is my 2006 Nissan altima gear shift stuck in park
How do u replace the front axel on a 1997 nissan altima
Hi, I have the Nissan Altima 2001 too and the overdrive switch in on the gear shifter handle and just below the shift push button.
If the 1997 Nissan Altima with an automatic transmission is shifting gears too early, it could be that the shift solenoid for the transmission is faulty. Both the shift solenoid and the speed sensor on the transmission should be checked.
bad throw out bearing
drop the pan, then the valve body, the solenoid is above that
Check the transmission fluid on the 1995 Nissan Altima. Bad fluid can cause the transmission to shift harder on parts that are more worn.
Manual Transmission...yes grab a monkey wrench or a monkey and twist.
Keep Rotating The Knob Counter-Clockwise Until It Comes Out.Should Be Simple.
In a Nissan Altima, the fuses for the shift lock control system are typically located in the fuse box under the dashboard on the driver's side and possibly in the engine compartment fuse box. You can find the specific fuse for the shift lock system by checking the diagram on the fuse box cover or referring to the owner's manual. If the shift lock is not functioning, it's advisable to inspect these fuses for any signs of damage or burnout.
If the vehicle is stuck in a gear then the shift censor is out. The other reason could be that the linkage on the transmission is broken.
Shift linkage may need a minor adjustment
