"Dark side of the moon" isn't actually dark. The more accurate term is "far side of the moon". Both sides of the moon receive an equal amount of sunlight, per month.

There are indeed a lot of photos taken of the far side. The first-ever photo of the far side of the moon was captured by the Luna 3 probe in 1959. All Apollo missions from Apollo 11 to 17 passed behind the moon, and they took photos of the far side.

The attached photo is from NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter.

If it is all dark there I doubt a photograph of the dark side of the moon can be taken.

Is the dark side of the moon colder?

Any side of the moon is colder when it's dark, and warmer when it's light. Just like Earth.

Does the moon have both sun light and darkness?

one side of the moon receives light from the sun and the other will never get light..that side is called the dark side of the moon..so yes the moon is dark and also receives sunlight...(the moon does not make any of its own light)

What is the difference between the near side of the moon and the far side of the moon?

There are more craters and fewer maria (the dark patches) on the "far side" than the "near side" . The moon revolves on its axis as it revolves around the Earth at a speed that ensures that the "near side" is always visible to us on Earth. As a result, the "far side" is exposed to the rest of the solar system much more than the "near side".

When the near side of the moon is dark is it a full moon?

Yes. The Moon's rotation on its axis is synchronous to its orbit of the Earth, timed so the same face of the Moon always faces Earth. But variations in viewing agles due to various orbital conditions allow us, over time, to view about 59 percent of the Moon's surface from Earth. The far side of the Moon is not dark any more than is the near side. As does Earth, every place on the Moon experiences light days and dark nights.

Is the moon always dark on one side?

No. The Moon is orbiting the Earth, but is illuminated by the Sun. About half of the Moon's total surface is illuminated by the Sun at any one time. As the Moon orbits the Earth, the same side always faces the Earth. The phases of the Moon represent the part of that face that is lighted on that particular day. We cannot see the far side of the Moon, but it will have the remaining part of the illuminated one-half.

How dark is the dark side of the moon?

Half the moon is 'dark' at any one time. Every point on the moon is illuminated for roughly 50% of the time, as the first answer said. So there IS a dark side of the moon :). And it is very dark, so that stars can be seen more clearly than anywhere on earth.

From which album is the song dark side of the moon?

Dark Side of the Moon is also the albums title No, I think the song is from a different album. If the song is from the same album then what is the song called? Nowhere is the song named in the album.

Why one side of the moon called the dark side of moon?

There are two reasons: 1. At any given time, one side of the Moon is dark because it's facing away from the Sun. 2. The rotation of the Moon in relation to its orbit around the Earth keeps the same side always facing the Earth. We NEVER see the other side.

Are there any water and food supplies on the moon?

What temperature is it on the light and dark sides of the moon?

Any place on the moon that's in direct sun (day side) has a temperature around +225 F. Any place on the moon that's not in direct sun (night side) has a temperature around -240 F. Of course, the light and dark areas of the moon keep changing throughout the month.

Is there any life in moon or any place?

Since there is no evidence and we can't go on the "dark side" of the moon (we would die!!). we can't say yes or no so it is a mystery. :)

Are there volcanoes on the moon?

Not any more. There used to be (about 1 billion years ago) but not now.

Is it possible for us to see the dark side of the moon?

Not from Earth. Now if by the dark side, you mean the actual dark side, the one facing away from the Sun, then you cannot see it just as you cannot see any dark body.If by the dark side, you mean the side facing away from Earth (the far side), then you can send spacecraft to see the other side. That would cost a lot of time and money.
